Trading draft rights, Kevin Love are options for Cavaliers | Jeff Schudel

Cleveland Cavaliers Interested In Trading For Kemba Walker

Report: Chris Paul Working Hard to Recruit LeBron to Come to Houston

Sexton is only 19 and his one weakness is outside shooting -.336 from 3-point range.

The 19-year-old lacks professional experience, but Altman pointed out that James dealt with that issue this season. He's confident, a proven scorer and he addresses a major need for the Cavs, who traded All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving to Boston a year ago and spent all season trying to replace him.

Irving's absence was never felt more than in the Finals as the Golden State Warriors only had to concentrate on James.

According to ESPN, the Cavaliers went into the draft without knowing what James' decision would be, and the star spent the week on a family vacation.

If James does not exercise his player option of $35.6 million on his contract next season by June 29, he becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Amid a bevy of reports that James is strongly considering leaving Cleveland to play somewhere else, the Cavs controlled all they could last night in deciding to draft highly touted former Alabama point guard Collin Sexton eighth overall.

But history shows the Cavs can find a good player even lower than the No. 8 pick they now own. If the Cavs trade their pick in a swap for a superstar, like Kawhi Leonard of the San Antonio Spurs, it may point to what may be going on behind closed doors.

LeBron James might be as good as gone.

"We continue to have good dialogue with his management team", Altman said.

"I'm not going to stop in free agency in terms of getting better", Altman said.

It's quite a quandary for Cleveland, and James isn't helping the Cavs by keeping them in suspense.

"You take Philly out, you take Houston out if they have cap problems; Daryl Morey - we all assume he can swing it, but let's say he can't - and the Lakers out, all of a sudden LeBron looks around and says, 'I might as well stay put'". Sexton, also, will be wearing No. 2 - just like Irving. If the Cavs can start at the ground-floor with a bigtime win of a draft pick, they can let the player develop in low-stakes basketball while surrounding him with other things.

The good news is Sexton is a 78 percent shooter from the foul line, meaning he has decent form and release on his shot. Will that player's rights be traded on Draft night?

"I still want to be in championship mode", he said.

He went on to be named the SEC's top newcomer and a first-team all-conference selection.

While Sexton certainly improves the Cavs' backcourt and adds a young player capable of breaking down defenders, there is no guarantee it will do anything to impact what James will do.

"When you have LeBron, you don't have time for the draft".
