Germany scored in the final minute of stoppage time to breathe life into the team's campaign to repeat as World Cup champions.

El Tri followed up their stunning victory over Germany in the Group F opener with a convincing 2-1 win over South Korea on Saturday.

Germany now face a decisive final tie with South Korea to seal their passage into the last 16.

For 90-plus minutes, Germany looked as if it would enter the final match facing the same possible fate as Spain and Italy and potentially become the third consecutive defending champion to fail to reach the knockout stage. In fact, if both Sweden and Germany win by one goal, the only way Mexico advances over Germany is if its game with Sweden has more total goals than Germany-South Korea. Loew said he was hopeful Hummels, who has not trained in the past days, would be back in time for the game against South Korea to partner Antonio Ruediger.

When the referee blew the final whistle, Toni Kroos fell to his knees and began to punch the ground, knowing that Germany won't be sent packing from the World Cup in Russian Federation without putting up a fight.

The game's first tally wasn't pretty by any means, but Ola Toivonen did just enough to put Sweden on top in the 32nd minute. Germany forced Sweden to play defensively for nearly the entire second half and eventually the attack paid off.

If you weren't doing so already, you probably should start taking Mexico seriously in the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

After the emotional highs of beating Germany in their opening game, there was no hangover in Rostov as Juan Carlos Osorio's men kept South Korea at arm's length despite some rough treatment from the Asians and deservedly claimed another three points.

Work still needs to be done with Mexico needing to avoid defeat against Sweden to be sure of making the last 16 for the seventh straight World Cup.

Mexico now appears destined for a spot in the Round of 16.

With a win or draw vs. Sweden, Mexico wins the group and advances to the second round.

The Red Devils might be the team to beat in the tournament.

Croatia has secured a trip to the second round and tops the group with six points. "He was obviously involved in the mistake with the Swedes scoring the first goal".
