According to a report on BoxOfficeIndia.com, "Sanju" opened to a massive Rs 34 crore at the ticket windows on Day 1 and is expected to earn more moolah over the weekend.

Starring Ranbir Kapoor in the titular role, the film features an ensemble that includes Manisha Koirala, Dia Mirza, Paresh Rawal, Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and Vicky Kaushal, all of whom are playing various characters loosely-based on real-life people from Dutt's controversial life. Despite being a non-holiday release, Sanju managed to kick-start the week with a "phenomenal total". They have filled a complaint on Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma regarding the same. Sanju emerged as 2018's highest opener ahead of other films like Baaghi 2, Padmaavat and Veere Di Wedding. She was previously quoted as saying, "It's an fantastic circle, from sharing screen space with Sanju sir to playing his wife in a film, it's been surreal". Considering the built-up anticipation for the film, Sanju might enter the 100 crore club in three days.


Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh, in a tweet, stated that the firm will also track single screen theatres across the country.
