Ambien manufacturer responds to Roseanne: 'Racism is not a known side effect'

"Gee, he never called President Donald J. Trump to apologize for the disgusting statements made and said about me on ABC", Trump wrote. While I don't regret the positive reviews I gave Roseanne - after covering TV for more than 20 years, I can say with certainty that the revival was funnier, better written and better acted than the majority of broadcast sitcom offerings - I do have some regrets about the situation.

Jarrett revealed that Bob Iger, the head of ABC parent company Disney, telephoned her personally to tell her the network was cancelling the show.

On Tuesday, however, she was thrust back into the public eye by a racist tweet from actress and comedian Roseanne Barr, in which she compared Jarrett to an ape.

Barr blamed her late-night message on the sleep aid Ambien. It premiered in March to record-breaking ratings, scoring over 18-million viewers with its premiere, before dipping to about 10-million by season's end, but still remaining the No. 1 scripted primetime television series in the 18-49 demo.

Barr was resoundingly condemned Tuesday, including from many who helped make her show successful.

Roseanne Barr has always been a controversial figure, and certainly, in the years since her ABC sitcom initially went off the air, her views have become increasingly weird and extreme.

Spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders says Trump's tweet Wednesday was meant to point out media bias against him.

It was Barr's earlier tweet about Jarrett that caused outrage and ultimately led to the show's cancellation.

This last tweet she noticed seems to suggest that the Obama couple may have something to do with the cancelation of Roseanne because she mocked their Netflix deal before.

After one of Barr's conservative fans offered his support via the social networking site, Barr replied, "i'm not a racist, just an idiot who made a bad joke. thank you for defending me tho-".

"This is a person who, left to her own devices, is not totally in control", Harbert said.

Barr initially tried to backtrack from the comments saying they were a joke, but appears to have changed her tone.

In a since-deleted tweet, Barr wrote that if the Islamist political movement "muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby = vj". She responded: "Please leave me alone, thanks".

"I'm not a racist, I never was & I never will be", she wrote Wednesday. "I apologize from the bottom of my heart and hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me".
