One person shot in Nashville shopping mall, alleged shooter arrested

One in critical condition as police respond to shooting at Opry Mills Mall in Nashville

It happened this afternoon inside the Opry Mlls Mall after an argument between two to three people.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, one person was shot.

Jayla Chapple, 18, was in an employee meeting in the back of Moe's Southwest Grill when two people bolted into the back of the restaurant to report the shooting in the mall.

The man fatally wounded in Opry Mills Mall is Demarco Churchwell, 22, of Nashville (left).

The mall was built on the former site of the Opryland USA theme park, and is adjacent to the Grand Ole Opry House. The suspected shooter ran from the mall to a ticketing booth outside.

Golson was taken to Hermitage Precinct for questioning. The man staffing the ticket booth was a retired California police officer; he told the suspect to go outside and lay on the ground as police responded. A gun was pulled and at least two shots were fired. She was detained during the investigation.

Ahead of a few of these pulled a pistol and fatally 2 men had been battling inside the Opry Mills Mall.

He didn't realize how serious things were until he got outside and saw dozens of officers swarming the building, shutting the mall down for the rest of the day.

The mall also issued a statement after the shooting.

No other gunshot victims were reported, according to fire department. We are cooperating fully with investigators and offering any assistance we can.

The fire department in Nashville said that one patient was transported to Skyline Hospital in critical condition after initially being reported as being transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The ATF has responded to the scene as part of the investigation.
