The NBCA Coach of the Year award is different from the NBA Coach of the Year award in that the league's 30 head coaches - as opposed to media members - are the individuals responsible for casting ballots.

Not to take anything away from the coaches choice of Coach Dewayne Casey of the Toronto Raptors it is unbelievable and inconceivable that Stevens did not get one single solitary vote. Toronto was also swept out of the playoffs by Cleveland last season.

After the head coach spot became vacant after the 2013 season, Ainge, Pagliuca, along with assistant general manager Mike Zarren and team co-owner Wyc Grousbeck, went to IN to visit Stevens at his home.

He believes his team's mental toughness and grit have carried it more than anything he's done.

Stevens was asked about receiving support from two former players.

"I think a lot of our guys have been thrown into the fire".

"I think you know me well enough that [awards] stuff just doesn't [matter]", Stevens said.

From Stevens' ability to draw up plays out of timeouts, to his management of late-clock situations, to getting the best out of his roster, James has always been a fan.

Thomas has a bit of a point about Stevens considering the major contributions he was able to get out of the young players on his roster in addition to how the squad was able to maximize the talent of its bench and role players while adjusting to losing key guys throughout the season.

Stevens said he's focused on living in the moment. "He would get a vote from me", Brown said. "We talked about it prior to the playoffs; nobody should love a challenge more, nobody should have more fun doing it".

Brad Stevens, who coached at Butler University was not as successful a college coach as Rick Pitino or John Calapari as he never won a national NCAA Championship.
