Gold Coast: Indian shooter Ankur Mittal earned a Bronze medal in the men's Double Trap event at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Australia's Gold Coast on Wednesday.
With Mitharval's medal, India's tally at the Games has swelled to a total of 22 (11 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze).
Ashab Mohammed - another Indian in the same event - finished fourth with 43 points (10 points behind Mittal). Day 7th started in absolute style for India with Shreyasi Singh winning the Gold in Women's double trap while Om Mitharwal won bronze in Men's 50m Pistol event. Ankur secured 133 marks in qualification and scored five points in the shoot-off, while Ashbha secured 137 points. India remains firmly placed at the third position in Commonwealth Games 2018 medal table. With the triumphant result, Mittal took the Indian medal tally to 23 medals at Gold Coast.
Cox grabbed second position while Linda Pearson of Scotland finished third to take home a bronze medal.
She won gold in the women's trap event in the National Shooting Championships in 2012.
Mittal had a good chance to finish second as Isle of Man's Tim Kneale, who was closest to him, had missed six of his shots and pretty much settled for a bronze. It all started with Manu Bhaker and Heena Sidhu claiming Gold and Silver respectively in the Women's 10m Air Pistol event. She had previously won the silver in the 10m air pistol event. Male pugilists Vikas Krishan and Gaurav Solanki made it to their respective semi-finals, assuring at least two more Bronze medals for India. She defeated Sri Lanka's Anusha Koddithuwak, 5-0 to book a place in the 48 kg Final.
