Roma Are Not Done Yet Says Captain Daniele De Rossi

Roma trailed 4-1 going into the second leg but goals from Edin Dzeko, Daniele De Rossi and Kostas Manolas helped them turnaround the tie at the Stadio Olimpico as they reached the semifinals via away goals. We have to try and win them because we have not won anything yet. The Italian giants scripted an unlikely comeback from 1-4 deficit of the first leg and secured the semi-final berth after winning 4-4 on away goal advantage.

Roma last reached the last four of Europe's premier club competition in 1983-84 when they lost to Liverpool in the final, and they will now fancy their chances against anyone - including the Reds and former star Mohamed Salah, who defeated Manchester City in Tuesday's other quarter-final. It was a bad day for us because couldn't overcome their pressure.

"We knew it would be hard, but we had that little bit of belief", he said.

Apart from Edin Dzeko, Daniele De Rossi and Kostas Manolas were on the scoresheet for Roma as a hapless Barcelona failed to register a single goal. "We come from a good season, from a good dynamic but unfortunately today it has been cut short, and this is the end of our way in Champions League".

Ernesto Valverde's side were swamped by Roma's high pressing and struggled to get hold of the ball as they were bullied in the air by the more physical Italian side, who inflicted the damage with long balls over the top and frequent crosses. "You analyze things", Valverde said when asked if would take the blame for the loss. It's a very big disappointment after the great season we have had.

Roma captain De Rossi set up Dzeko's goal with a straight ball and the Bosnian striker muscled off defenders to shoot past Marc-Andre ter Stegen with his left foot.

Dzeko was at it again after the break with a show of brute force, shrugging off Gerard Pique and Umtiti to approach the goal. Midfielder De Rossi emphatically planted the penalty past Ter Stegen.

However with just seven minutes left Manolas met another fizzing Kolarov corner with a unsaveable header, sparking wild celebrations on and off the pitch. "If you come all this way and get to the semi-finals, why shouldn't you believe in getting to the final in Kiev", he asked reporters after the historic win. The truth is that I made this choice to create more width, allow more counter-attacks and bring rapidity, but what really changed was the philosophy of the side and we have to continue like this now.
