A man's died after a blaze on the 50th floor of Trump Tower in Manhattan. Four firefighters were injured and Brassner, 67, was pronounced dead in hospital, according to the New York Times.

Four firefighters suffered minor injuries tackling the flames, which could be seen pouring from the high-rise.

"President Trump tweeted that the fire was "Very confined" - adding in parentheses - "well built building".

Mr. Trump tweeted shortly after the fire broke out that his building is "well-built".

Six firefighters were also injured in the blaze.

Trump Tower opened in 1984.

"The president's penthouse residence and the Trump Organization's offices are in Trump Tower, but he's spent little time there since taking office".

The upper-level residential floors are not equipped with fire sprinklers, according to Nigro.

Nigso said the cause of the fire was not known.

"Members pushed in heroically, they were knocking down the fire and found one occupant of the apartment who is in critical condition".

One resident told the New York Times she received no notification that the building was on fire or any calls to evacuate. As you can imagine, the apartment is quite large, we are 50 stories up.

Multiple street closures slowed foot and auto traffic surrounding the tower, from East 55th Street to East 57th Street from Fifth Avenue to Madison Avenue, according to officials.

"The rest of the building had a considerable amount of smoke".

Almost two decades ago, Trump, then one of the Big Apple's most prominent real estate moguls, lobbied against Mayor Rudy Giuliani-era legislation that considered whether sprinklers should be installed in all residential buildings after two fatal fires in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

The Department of Buildings has issued a partial order to vacate residences 50C and 51C, they note, and residents are able to occupy the 55 floor and above or 45 floor and below. According to Nigro, 200 firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the scene.
