Bollywood welcomes bail for Salman Khan

Khan, accompanied by bodyguard, Shera, landed at the General Aviation Terminal of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai and drove straight to his home. The Bollywood actor was sentenced to five years imprisonment for killing two blackbucks in Kankani village, near Jodhpur - during the shooting of Hum Saath Saath Hain.

Salman, 52, tensed but smiling, gave a flying kiss to his fans from the balcony of the Galaxy Apartments at Bandra in Mumbai.

Valliyate further said that the NGO has been involved in the case of a man from Maharashtra who killed a baboon as his first offence and has been denied bail for a record five times, and added that such cases usually warrant seven-year prison sentences. The community has pursued the case against Khan for nearly two decades and cheered the decision by setting off firecrackers near the courthouse and handing out candies.

"Prayers of millions worked", said television actor Arjun Bijlani in a tweet.

The four other co-accused - actors Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Neelam - have been acquitted.

His biggest Hindi films include "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (I have fallen in love)", "Sultan (Ruler)", "Ek Tha Tiger (There was a tiger)" and "Tiger Zinda Hai (Tiger is alive)".

The Bishnoi, a religious sect whose beliefs include worshipping nature and wildlife, and who have long protected the blackbuck deer, expressed disappointment at the acquittal of the four other actors.

But while his fans and producers of costly upcoming films may be relieved, Khan still faces a major courtroom drama.

The judges found that prosecutors had failed to prove charges of culpable homicide.
