An emotional Boney Kapoor reacts to Sridevi winning the National Award

Nostalgia took over family, friends, and fans of Sridevi as she was named as the best actress (National Film Award) for her performance in Mom.

During the announcement, Director, Shekhar Kapur said he insisted to the rest of the jury that Sridevi should not be given the award only because she passed away. It was me who fought that it shouldn't be Sridevi.

Also starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna in the lead role, the movie was critically acclaimed by the audience. "We are overjoyed to know that the jury has conferred the Best Actor award to Sridevi for her performance in Mom". The film also featured Pakistani actor Adnan Siddiqui as Sridevi's onscreen husband. In fact, her first major film award, the Kerala State Film Award, was bestowed upon her as a child artist for the Malayalam film Poompatta (1971).


Adil, who has worked in films like "Parched", "Angry Indian Goddesses', "Life of Pi", tweeted: "After a long time the Chairman of the jury of National Film Awards made a lot of sense!"

Her daughter Janhvi Kapoor will make her debut with "Dhadak" soon, and it looks like Boney Kapoor misses his wife dearly. The best Children's film was given to the Marathi Movie Mhorkya, directed by Amar Bharat Deokar. "You can't really decide how people will respond to your film as it's an artform that can be interpreted and appreciated differently". And weren't we elated at the news that double Academy Award winning music composer AR Rahman bagged two National Awards!

Sridevi in a still from Mom. Actor Fahadh Faasil won the Best Supporting Actor award for the same film. For years, I have been watching films and saying "the standard of Hindi films is just not good enough". Apart from being considered the ultimate recognition for films, the awards also hold the distinction of recognising merit across the country and especially in regional cinema.
