Man wanted for questioning in officer's death arrested

Suspect in slaying of Kentucky police officer still on the run

Kentucky officer dead after late night call

The body of Pikeville police officer Scotty Hamilton was returned to the town Wednesday afternoon after he was shot and killed responding to a call late Tuesday night.

Hall was arrested without incident at 11 a.m. Thursday. He had been a member of the police department for a dozen years.

However, they later said the suspected shooter has not been captured.

The officers were conducting a criminal patrol when they saw a suspicious vehicle.

That's when Martin heard a gunshot and returned to find Hamilton with a fatal gunshot wound, police said. Sadly, the Pike County Coroner's Office pronounced Officer Hamilton dead at the scene.

Hamilton leaves behind his wife and infant daughter.

Police have arrested a man wanted for questioning in the fatal shooting of a Kentucky police officer.

Officer Hamilton was a 12-year veteran of the Pikeville Police Department.

Hamilton had worked several investigations with the KSP, Sims said. "It was routine. We try to have a presence and attempt to locate any individuals involved in activity".

He will be buried at Pikeville City Cemetery.

A police officer has died after being shot in the line of duty. Hamilton's casket was draped with an American flag and led down Hambley Boulevard in a processional ceremony Wednesday. "Please pray for the community of Pikeville, the local and state police officers involved and the family of the officer who was killed..." he tweeted. They have been using critical response teams in that search, including a helicopter.
