Damascus Warns About'Dangerous Consequences of Israeli Attacks in Syria

The Israeli military boasted on Saturday that it struck 12 targets, including three Aerial Defense Systems or ADS and four Iranian targets, in Syria. "The Syrians are playing with fire when they allow the Iranians to attack Israel from their soil".

The military said its planes faced massive anti-aircraft fire from Syria that forced two pilots to abandon an F-16 jet that crashed in northern Israel. One of the pilots was severely injured, it said. Adrian Rankine-Galloway said the United States shares "the concerns of many throughout the region that Iran's destabilizing activities threaten worldwide peace and security, and we seek greater global resolve in countering Iran's malign activities". Gen. Ronen Manelis, said in a statement earlier Saturday. This incident proves that every one of these warnings proved true.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Shabbos afternoon convened with Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman and IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Its Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qasemi called them the claims "ridiculous", according to Reuters.

The Israeli military said early assessments indicated the jet had been shot down by Syrian fire, but this was still unconfirmed.

"Israel will continue to enforce its redlines, and all worldwide and regional actors interested in stabilizing the region should work together to counter Iran, prevent it from basing itself in Syria, and stop its support of Hezbollah", the minister said.

State television stations also said that sounds of explosions believed to be from Israeli attacks were heard in the Damascus countryside. If Israel does become more engaged in the fighting next door, it could have serious consequences for the war in Syria war - and for the region as a whole.

Iranian and Iran-backed Shi'ite forces, including Lebanon's Hezbollah, have deployed widely in support of Assad.

"We will not allow that regime to entrench itself militarily in Syria, as it seeks to do, for the express goal of eradicating our state", Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during a visit to Washington in December.

Israel has struck weapons convoys destined for Hezbollah, which is fighting alongside Syrian forces, nearly 100 times since 2012.

Israel has repeatedly warned in recent weeks against the presence of Iranian forces in neighbouring Syria.

"The government and army of Syria as an independent country have a legitimate right to defend (the country's) territorial integrity and counter any type of foreign aggression".

Israel has shot down several drones that previously tried to infiltrate its territory from Syria.

IDF spokesman Lt Col Jonathan Conricus told CNN that one Israeli aircraft came down, with all others returning safely to base. In his statements to SANA, Turk-Abadi highlighted the deep-rooted brotherly relations between Syria and Iran in all fields, noting that Tehran will take part in the reconstruction process of Syria to rehabilitate what has been destroyed and build a better future.
