Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has rejected the recent statement by the head of Turkey's Republican People's Party (CHP), Kemal Kilicdaroglu, regarding a potential meeting between Ankara and Damascus, Al-Masdar News says.

President Rouhani hailed two countries' high-level talks on the expansion of bilateral, regional and worldwide cooperation, saying that the two governments are willing to develop and strengthen relations as two friendly and brother neighboring countries.

The operation will continue until all terrorist elements are cleared from the region, Bilgic told the journalists.

The Syrian Congress of National Dialog was held in the Black Sea resort city of Sochi on January 29 and 30, with delegates from the Syrian government and opposition in attendance.

During the meeting, Rouhani also warned about bids by the United States and the Israeli regime to prolong tensions in the region.

"We maintain that regional states should stand up against plots hatched up with the aim of violating their territorial integrity", he was quoted as saying in a Farsi report by the Iranian president's official website.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif (3rd-L) and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu (3rd -R) attend a meeting in Tehran on February 7, 2018.

In his press conference on Tuesday, Rouhani had wished that Turkey would stop the ongoing Turkish military operation in northern Syria, saying that it only increases tension in the war-torn country.
