It was Jimmy Kimmel's interview with Stormy Daniels, the adult film star who may or may not have received hush money after possibly sleeping with President Donald Trump, that stood as the must-watch event of the night.
Kimmel said the statement of denial had scuttled his planned questions, but Daniels implied she had nothing to do with it. Earlier Tuesday, Daniels released a statement denying a sexual encounter with Trump in 2006, but later that night she appeared to hint that she did not sign it.
Daniels appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Show just hours later - Tuesday night, local time - and set tongues wagging when she seemed to allude that the statement may not have been from her.
"Then again, why? It's a marriage of convenience", she mused. It came from the internet, she added.
Neither Mr Cohen - who has denied there was any affair - nor Ms Daniels have addressed whether she was paid $130,000, and if so, why.
"Stormy Daniels is lying, she knows what she did and she's on her Make America Horny Again tour", she continued.
She would also like you to follow her on Instagram. "I said no, what's she gonna say?" "I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted to ask you tonight but then about, like, three hours ago I go on the internet and I get - I see this letter", he said.
The game got Daniels to admit she slept with a married man but she was not about to give up any more information when Jimmy got very specific with the questions.
The Trump administration has flatly denied the allegations.
"You're so smart, Jimmy", she said.
"Mrs Trump supported her husband's decision to run for President and in fact, encouraged him to do so".
The signed statement, later confirmed as authentic by Daniels' representative Gina Rodriguez, is addressed to "To Whom It May Concern" and denies charges of the alleged affair, the Washington Post reported.
