Tottenham's George Marsh, 19, collided with the 29-year-old in an aerial challenge and to say Lallana didn't take too kindly to it would be an understatement.

LIVERPOOL'S Adam Lallana has been sent off in an Under 23 game for a wild choke hold on Tottenham's George Marsh.

The 33-capped global was dismissed by the referee, but still had to led away from the field by Liverpool first-team colleague Danny Ings, with the Reds going on to lose the match 1-0.

Danny Ings did his best to calm down his teammate, who trudged down the tunnel after seeing red for the over-reaction.

Lallana was playing with Liverpool's U23s as he attempts to regain fitness while coming back from a long term thigh injury that has kept him out most of the season.

After the match Liverpool U23 manager Neil Critchley was asked about the incident with Critchley saying, "I have never seen Adam react like that".

Lallana has started just one game all season and made a paltry five substitute appearances, his last of which came against Swansea City on the 22nd of January.

The young Reds ended the game with just nine men after George Johnston picked up a second yellow card late on.

It is expected that the ban will also apply for the Premier League.
