Wind chill temperatures are forecasted to improve slightly during the afternoon, but will quickly drop back during the evening. Thursday will be cloudy and breezy with highs in the upper 20s and low 30s.

Be safe and Happy New Year! That's a funnel of cold air being piped down straight from the Arctic Circle.

The first week of 2018 will remain cold, but sunny. At midnight, the wind chills will be around -14 with actual temperatures around 8°. We will have wind chills below zero in places. Either way, it's breezy, with highs in the 20s and wind chill values in the teens.

Amid the cold conditions, Wasula said people should make an effort to "not stay out too long" but be prepared if getting out. The rest of western South Dakota has a Wind Chill Warning in effect, lasting through most of Monday morning.

Those flurries will be so light that no accumulations are expected, so no biggie. An area of low pressure will skirt offshore Wednesday night, which could bring us some snow showers - possibly minor accumulations.
