Tessa Thompson downplays criticism of Lena Dunham's involvement in Time's Up

In a subsequent statement to Indiewire, Dunham said she "was honored to be invited to the meeting by a close friend and to observe the work that these awesome women have been doing the past few months".

Lena Dunham has split from boyfriend Jack Antonoff, after over five years together. Yet Dunham's presence in the photo enraged Thompson's followers, many of whom pointed to the Girls star's prior defense of writer Murray Miller, who was accused of sexually assaulted a minor.

"I support this initiative and the fight for gender justice and am really glad that the movement is growing", the user commented.

An example: actress Tessa Thompson, most recently seen on the big screen as Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok, posted a photo on her Instagram account of a group of actors who've been involved with Time's Up. "We have spoken and she knows my heart", she added. This is a time of reckoning.

"Now I literally can't sleep cuz I'm laughing too hard and I am also keeping him awake". "To those struggling with anxiety, OCD, depression: I know it's mad annoying when people tell you to exercise, and it took me about 16 medicated years to listen".

Dunham responded to the critique with this statement to IndieWire: "I was honored to be invited to the meeting by a close friend and to observe the work that these unbelievable women have been doing the past few months".

Thompson also said she was sorry the public exchange had distracted anyone from the Times's Up message. Worse, Lena has yet to publicly apologize to Aurora despite information surfacing that the perpetrator, the friend she defended, and his lawyers lied about Aurora. For highly personal reasons, I've been unable to join previous efforts but being asked to be a part of this celebratory moment was truly attractive. "I've worked with Tessa and respect her artistry and admire her consistent candor".

On Tuesday, Thompson backtracked, issuing a statement saying she regretted her criticisms of Dunham. The "Girls" creator and star has lain low of late; the last Tweet she wrote was an apology for casting doubt on Aurora Perrineau's rape accusation.
