Russian Federation denies re-exporting North Korean coal despite sanctions: Ifax

Seoul worried US may launch limited strike, or 'preventive' action against North Korea

RPDK's Artistic Program in PyeongChang 2018 Agreed

Some 28,500 USA servicemembers are based in South Korea, which remains technically at war with the North after their 1950-53 conflict ended in an armistice instead of a peace treaty.

The parade, said Cho, is expected to be held at Mirim Airport on the outskirts of Pyongyang, as North Korean leader Kim Jong-un tries to solidify his leadership by using the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the Korean People's Army and the regime.

"The Olympic Games are always about building bridges, they never erect walls".

After spending their first day of a three-day visit in South Korea inspecting facilities in Gangneung, the 8-member North Korean delegation is in Pyeongchang on Friday.

China's support for increasingly tough United Nations sanctions has also sparked a backlash from Pyongyang. The designation of more targets for sanctions by the U.S. government appears to be in line with Washington's current position that it will keep up pressure on North Korea until the beginning of denuclearization talks, regardless of inter-Korean dialogue.

According to RFA, these latest measures dealt serious financial blow as latest United Nations estimates suggest over 100,000 North Koreans working overseas send some US$500 million in earnings to the Kim regime annually.

The message, delivered by the state media, added that Pyeongyang will "smash" impediments to reunifying the Korean Peninsula.

Central Intelligence Agency director Mike Pompeo has said North Korea is "a handful of months" away from being able to make a nuclear attack on the United States.

The latest burning tensions (pun intended) reflect rising dissatisfaction with President Moon's seemingly unconditional extension of an olive branch towards North Korea, in return for North Korea's participation in the Pyeongchang Games, which he dubs the 'Peace Olympics'.

The campaign of burning (or ripping) photos of Kim Jong-un is titled "South Korea is a free country" (as opposed to North Korea). Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono called on the world community to question North Korea's motivations.

North Korea has said that the "dark vortex of nuclear war" is hanging over the region because of U.S. "military tensions".

The news was also met with an interesting and perhaps unexpected perspective. They were given a warm welcome by the South Korean players on the team and by Lee Jae-geun, director of the center; Lee Ho-sik, deputy director of the center; Chung Mong-won, president of the Korea Ice Hockey Association (KIHA); and Sarah Murray, coach of the unified team.

Only 22 players will be able to participate in each game. I think it's really starting to sink in. "It definitely affects our players". The unified Korean team will open their group action against Switzerland on February 10.
