The new film is an adaptation of Jason Matthews novel of the same name, which follows Dominika Egorova (Lawrence), a prima ballerina who faces a bleak and uncertain future after she suffers an injury that ends her career.
It's not a bad accent, though it's clear why the first trailer wanted to focus on the eerie visuals and the wordless chemistry between Lawrence and Joel Edgerton's American CIA agent.
In the new full-length trailer for 20th Century Fox's spy thriller Red Sparrow, Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence must go to great lengths to not only become a secret agent known as a sparrow, but also to escape the restraints from being one as well. Her "soul", Jeremy Irons' General Vladimir Andreievich Korchnoi tells her, marking her compassion for others as her biggest weak link. She is tasked to kill a Central Intelligence Agency agent Nathaniel Nash (Joel Edgerton) when they end up falling for each other.
After a brutal training, Egorova becomes the most effective, lethal Sparrow to come from the school.
Whether Red Sparrow can differentiate itself from its obvious fictional predecessors remains to be seen, especially since the project seems extremely indebted to Marvel's preexisting character (who was even trained in a "red room"!). A devoted daughter determined to protect her mother at all costs.
Red Sparrow hits theaters on March 2, 2018. "A master of seductive and manipulative combat". Brutal training subsequently shapes Dominika into the most risky operative the service has ever produced.
Joel Edgerton, meanwhile, plays an American CIA agent who embarks on an affair with her - but may also be targeted by her, or could possibly be looking to defect.
