Honda Accord Takes North American Car of the Year Award

Celebrating it's 30th year as an worldwide event, the North American global Auto Show (NAIAS) is among the most prestigious auto shows in the world.

Since 1994, an esteemed panel of 60 seasoned automotive journalists annually votes for the North American Car and Truck of the Year, in tandem with kicking off the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

"Honda took a clean-sheet approach to reinventing America's most popular vehicle, and we couldn't be prouder to receive this honor for Accord as the North American auto of the Year", said Henio Arcangeli, Jr., senior vice president of the Automobile Division and general manager of Honda Sales, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. The 2018 Lincoln Navigator took the top truck honor, while the 2018 Volvo XC60 took top utility honor.


Larger than models from previous years, the Accord edged out the Toyota Camry and the Kia Stinger for the honor presented in Detroit.

About the Honda AccordOver 10 generations and 41 years, American vehicle buyers have made Accord the best-selling auto in America, purchasing more than 13 million Accords. Only new or substantially changed models were eligible for the award, with judges considering innovation, design, safety, driver satisfaction, and value for the dollar as criteria. Finalists were the Ford Expedition and the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. Among the redesigned Honda Odyssey, redesigned Volvo XC60 and brand-new Alfa Romeo Stelvio, the Swede reigned supreme. The utility category is specifically for car-based crossovers and minivans.
