Afghanistan: Suicide bomber in Kabul kills several police officers

Pakistan has condemned a suicide attack in Afghan capital Kabul on Thursday in which several people were killed and injured.

According to AFP, which quoted officials, 13 people were killed in the blast which was claimed by Daesh, adding to the carnage caused by the militant group in the Afghan capital.

All of the dead were police.

He said at least 16 policemen and 2 civilians were also wounded after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives among the police personnel and civilians.

The security situation in Afghanistan continues to deteriorate.

The local Tolo News stated that it was a suicide attack.

The latest assault comes a week after more than 40 people were killed and dozens more wounded in a suicide blast claimed by IS targeting the Shia community in Kabul.

Kabul police spokesman Basir Mujahid said police were conducting operations against illegal drug and alcohol sales in the area and that security personnel were attempting to maintain safety among crowds that had gathered. It was the third deadly attack claimed by the extremist group in December alone.

On Wednesday, Afghanistan's spy agency announced it had busted a 13-member IS cell in Kabul that had been hatching "a series of big terrorist attacks" in the city.
