The Tomb Raider movie starring Alicia Vikander is set for a release next year, and it only makes sense that Square Enix would grab the opportunity for some cross promotion. A new Tomb Raider game is coming.
The most recent Tomb Raider release was Rise of the Tomb Raider, which appeared first on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One in 2015, before coming to PCs and the PlayStation 4 in 2016. It was not revealed if a similar agreement between Microsoft and Square Enix will occur again.
All of which means - if Crystal Dynamics is still on Tomb Raider too, and everything we've heard suggests so - there are now two big Tomb Raider titles in development. They actually announced that they will announce the next Lara Croft adventure at a "major event" in 2018.
What would you like to see in the new game? Take for example, the very first capital letter from each sentence in the statement and you get "Shadow" as a word. It looks like Square Enix will be introducing the next installment in the game series pretty soon as well. The statement from Square Enix did not confirm this as being the game's title, so it's entirely possible that it could end up being named something else. Couple that with the way the message seems to insist they want to "share" more with us and it's clear that they were dropping a hint at the name.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider will instead be developed by Eidos Montreal, of Thief and Deus Ex fame - a fact Eurogamer sources have also verified.
