Former Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze will be suspended for two conference games during the 2018 season if he's employed as a head coach at another school.
The university's athletic leaders appeared in front of the NCAA committee on infractions in Covington, Kentucky, on September 11-12.

Many suspected Shea Patterson could be on the move following Friday's announced penalties against Ole Miss handed down by the NCAA - which include a bowl ban for 2018 and reduced scholarships in future seasons - now that move is very much in play following news of the quarterback seeking, and receiving, permission to explore his options to transfer from the school.
The university says it will "vigorously appeal" the 2018 postseason ban, calling it "excessive", in part because the school self-imposed a postseason ban for 2017. The school met with the NCAA Committe on Infractions in September, and the school is set to release the official findings at some point this morning.

Freeze, who was sacked in July for issues not related to the NCAA investigation, has received a show-cause penalty, though the length is unknown.

Now that Ole Miss has a better idea of its punishment, it can begin the process of rebuilding the program.
That means Ole Miss and Head Coach Matt Luke will be able to offer 81 scholarships in 2018, down four from the allowed total of 85.
They will have an addition one year bowl ban, in addition to the self-imposed one they are now serving, meaning no bowl games until 2019. Freeze resigned before the 2017 season when it was revealed he had made calls to an escort service. The school said the resignation was not in relation to the NCAA case.
