White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders blasts UT over Greg Schiano reports

That's after a report Tennessee may be finalizing a deal with with the Ohio State University defensive coordinator.

The Volunteers fired Butch Jones on November 12, the day after they lost 50-17 at Missouri to fall to 0-6 in Southeastern Conference play. The defeat ended UT's year at 4-8, the first eight-loss season in program history and first year without a win the SEC. In 2006, Schiano went 11-2 at Rutgers and won numerous national coach of the year awards.

Schiano, 51, is now the defensive coordinator at Ohio State.

Schiano had been out of coaching since 2013, after he was sacked by the Buccaneers following an 11-21 tenure in two seasons.

Fans weren't the only ones confused by the hire, as even the NFL's Mike Freeman called the reported hire "one of the worst coaching moves of the past 10 years, in any sport, on any level".

Schiano developed a relationship with Currie when he was out of coaching for two seasons following his short tenure in Tampa.

Schiano was 68-67 at Rutgers, but took the Scarlet Knights to a bowl game in six of his final seven seasons. He then worked for the Chicago Bears, and as the defensive coordinator for Miami before accepting the head coaching job at Rutgers.
