Specifically, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader will now cost 15,000 credits; Emperor Palpatine, Chewbacca, and Leia Organa will cost 10,000 credits, and Iden Versio will cost 5,000 credits, which EA stated will "make earning these heroes an achievement, but one that will be accessible for all players".
He went on to say that DICE is aware of the feedback on Reddit, and promised that the studio will continue to make changes to credit levels for unlocking heroes.
In fact, this Wednesday we'd like you to join us for a Reddit AMA with some of the key leads on our team. To get access to beloved Star Wars characters like Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, players will have to put in an estimated 40 hours of multiplayer time. Now, the company's contrived excuse for Battlefront II's gameplay mechanics has become the most downvoted comment in Reddit's history.
"As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the Open Beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch, the post reads". This of course is built around the game's entire business model, which entices player to pay early to gain access without having to grind those 40 hours. While I've enjoyed what I've played thus far in EA Access, the looming presence of its loot boxes blemish the overall presentation, and it now serves as a reminder that at their worst microtransactions aren't just unappetizing side dishes in a three-course meal - sometimes they spill out onto your dessert and make that taste a bit awful, too.
There's also the dust-up around the loot boxes and unlock economy to address, and we'll be seeing how quickly EA and DICE address this feedback (Edit: The feedback was addressed very quickly). For example, if you're the one to retrieve an item from the enemy base in Strike, you'll bag yourself a nice amount of Battle Points.
During an earnings call recently, EA CEO Andrew Wilson suggested that the players voicing concerns about Battlefront II's loot boxes are a vocal minority.
Battlefront 2, a game that costs up to $80 to buy, doesn't come with every hero unlocked. "And we are engaged in that conversation, engaging with our players on a daily basis as we think about that".
Imagine that your shiny, shrink-wrapped copy of Star Wars Battlefront 2 just arrived in the mail from Amazon. At least one person who claims to be with EA (and who has since locked down his Twitter account) stated publicly this morning that he'd received "7 death threats and over 1,600 personal attacks" as a result of the fracas.
