Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Muneer Khan said that a joint operation was launched after getting a tip off about the terrorist hiding in a house.

An Army jawan was killed during a gunbattle with militants in Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.

While the security forces were attempting to burst terror hideouts after an information was received to them, a gun battle started where the forces were able to neutralise terrorists. Officials said they had information about presence of three or four militants in the area.

However, no fresh contact has been established with militants by forces today.

Meanwhile, DGP SP Vaid hailed the forces for the successful operation in Handwara.

One soldier was killed in the operation and two others injured, said an Army spokesperson, adding that the operation was still on.

Separately, the Army and police launched a joint operation in the forests of Zirhama, 11 km from Kupwara town.

The militants reportedly opened fire upon the search party, triggering an encounter.
