Cesc Fabregas could be Chelsea's only fit senior midfielder for Saturday's Premier League game against Watford, head coach Antonio Conte has confirmed.

"Alongside that we are having important injuries and everyone knows we don't have a large squad".

Cesar Azpilicueta and Thibaut Courtois have played every minute of Chelsea's Premier League campaign so far.

However, Conte has said that a scan has shown the player's injury to be better than first feared, with the former Leicester City player potentially returning within the next two weeks.

"When you play every three days it's impossible to work on the tactical aspect and physical aspect".

"Now we are in October and we have to think about improving the present", he said.

That has not been the case this season, and already the Stamford Bridge outfit are struggling in their bid to defend the title-they are nine points behind league leaders Manchester City.

"The most important thing to do is to work, always to have this enthusiasm". But when you have to play four competitions, this is the path you must follow.

The current injury problems are leaving Conte with few options for rotation as he continues to bemoan a lack of options while players are forced to play three games a week.

Conte, who made a point of praising the Pozzo family for the team-strengthening they had sanctioned at Watford, had always envisaged a hard campaign and had stressed in talks with the hierarchy the need to add greater depth to his squad over the summer. But I was a magician (to predict these problems). "I hope to try to recover some players in these 24 hours". Me and my staff.

"I remember when I was growing up in Brazil, a guy once pointed a gun at my face because he thought I was a drug dealer trying to steal his distribution point". When it comes to matches at Stamford Bridge, the Blues have not been very successful as they recorded just three victories in seven outings, clearly not enough for the holding champions of England.

"I hope to have him back very soon, before the worldwide break", Conte added.

'I have experience, a lot of experience, as a player and as a coach of facing this type of situations.
