NFL Notes: Eli Manning not anxious about Giants' offense

Odell Beckham is back

Odell Beckham Jr. injury: Giants WR status for Week 2 vs. Lions

Eli Manning isn't panicking after the Giants' 19-3 loss to the Cowboys Sunday night. He has only played in all 16 games once.

It sure looked it, falling regular victim to a well-designed Dallas scheme of stunts and twists, unable to generate any forward push and leaving the Giants on the wrong end of a 60-minute battle for field position.

Of course, Vereen can expect to see some regression in target shares, mainly because of the presence of Odell Beckham Jr. "I was really trying my best in warmups, I was trying to get out there and play", Beckham said.

There were definitely opportunities for other players on the Giants' offense.

Odell Beckham Jr.is inching towards an actual game. It felt good off the foot.

Beckham is now still playing on his original contract with the Giants and is scheduled to make just under $2 million this year, before jumping to nearly $8.5 million next year. It looks like so far they haven't done enough this off-season to give Beckham more support.

Manning even admitted things could get worse, although he expects improvement against the Detroit Lions (1-0) on Monday night. Although Vereen's receiving shares will decrease, his rushing opportunities will most likely increase (considering the lack of competition on the running back depth chart) and Vereen functions completely differently than Beckham as a receiver. The pressure is on Beckham like never before to help kick-start the Giants offense.

"It's too bad because Koo drilled the first one", Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers said. The Giants only ran for a total of 35 yards Sunday night. Since 2011, Vereen has averaged 4.3 yards per rush attempt and 8.9 yards per reception, a well-balanced approach that has allowed him to have a nice albeit under the radar National Football League career. Manning consistently struggled to push the ball downfield as he was given no time in the pocket. A total of two offensive possessions in Dallas territory (including the game's final one, when the game was over) very bad.

The Giants waited, and waited-and waited some more. The Lions pass rush forced Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer into three costly interceptions Week one.
