In states with Peet's Coffee, you can get a free cup of coffee and 25 percent off fresh beans. Of course, coffee products are part of the daily routine for more than half of Americans and Canadians and a significant percentage of those elsewhere, so this day may not be all that different from every other one.

Dunkin' Donuts: On September 29, Dunkin' Donuts customers get a free medium cup of coffee with the purchase of another medium, large, or extra-large cup of coffee. Find a participating location here. The company is offering 20 percent of all of their K-Cup pods on Keurig.com on Friday through Sunday, Oct. 1.

- Krispy Kreme is celebrating National Coffee Day all weekend long by offering a free hot or iced coffee from September 29 until October 1.
