The Wildcats have looked underwhelming two games into a season that had as much hope as any recent ones in Lexington, Ky., and SC is a 6.5-point favorite.
In order to do that, SC must snap a three-game losing streak to the Wildcats, its longest losing streak against any division opponent. Stoops said Jones is listed as week-to-week. He's a guy who worked extremely hard.
There's no sugarcoating this, the loss of Samuel - even if it is only five or six weeks - is a devastating blow to the SC offense.
"This says we've got a little bit of dog in us, I guess", Johnson said. "Our players are always expected to shake hands regardless of the circumstances, and I addressed it with them and our football team". However, the Gamecocks weren't able to take advantage as they missed a 52 yard field goal, and had a pass intercepted by Mike Edwards.
"He's going to be part of everything we do", Bentley said after the game. But, to be down by only 6-0 after all of this is pretty good. The Gamecocks are averaging only 3.3 yards per carry this season, but have a pair of solid wins over NC State and Missouri. But Kentucky's defense did not allow the Gamecocks any more points after that.
After a tough opening six quarters which saw him run 23 times for 70 yards, sophomore Benny Snell, Jr. exploded in the second half for 100 yards on 16 carries as Kentucky topped Eastern Kentucky to start 2-0 for the third time in the last four seasons.
"It just shows that us as a defense, we can do things like that", Courtney Love said. "You never know. The surgery went extremely well".
The Cats would tack on another field goal with 8:59 remaining, taking a 20-6 lead.
"He's an outstanding teammate and an outstanding friend", Gamecocks quarterback Jake Bentley said. Kentucky played well from start to finish, but the Gators have simply had the Wildcats' number in this matchup, so I'll lay the points with Florida here.
