Mattoon High School officials have issued a statement regarding Wednesday's shooting that wounded one person. WAND17 reported the lockdown was lifted at approximately 1 p.m.

By the time police were able to reach the high school the shooter was already subdued and a school resource officer was already on site. Officials said the injured student is in stable condition at a local hospital.

Police were securing the scene.

Parents are asked to pick their children at Riddle Elementary School, according to the News-Gazette in Champaign.

According to WAND 17, one person is in custody after several shots were fired and at least one person was shot at the school.

High-schoolers have been evacuated outside the building to safe places.
