'He doesn't have a weakness' says Rod Laver about Roger Federer

"Was actually practicing OK the last few days", he added, "but it's too sore for me to win the tournament".

Tennis legend Rod Laver believes Roger Federer does not have a weakness in his game at the moment after he improved his backhand, which has been aided by the 19-time men's singles Grand Slam victor switching rackets. However, for tennis romantics, Murray's withdrawal came after the draw was made leaving top seed Nadal and third- seeded Federer in the same half, thereby ruling out a collision in the final.

Now the big stage in NY awaits Swiss legend Federer and Spanish icon Nadal. It is tennis' final grand slam of the year, and our Roger Clark takes a look at what we can expect over the next two weeks.

Newly crowned World No.1 Rafael Nadal is all geared up for the final grand slam of the year, as US Open 2017 action kicked off today at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Nadal is the No. 1 seed and Federer is No. 3.

"Obviously there has been a lot of players with injuries this year", Murray said. "If he plays up to his potential like he has this year, and he gets going, I definitely see him going very deep". Thankfully I played him in Miami this year so I have a little bit of an idea of how he plays, and his patterns and what he prefers to do and whatnot.

But when the draw came out last Friday, they were placed in the same half of the draw, meaning they could meet in the semifinals on September 8, not the final September 10.

An all-time great, the reigning Wimbledon and Australian Open champion is chasing a 20th Grand Slam title to further extend his lead as the most successful male player throughout history in major competitions.

Play begins on Day Two of the USA open at 11am (4pm BST). "We never played here in NY, so I think that would be fun for everybody involved". Hopefully it will be a night session. The fourth-seeded Zverev defeated Federer in a title match in Cincinnati earlier this month.

No. 5 Marin Cilic, the 2014 champion, shifts to Murray's slot in the bracket and takes on the man who was supposed to face Murray in the first round, Tennys Sandgren of the United States.

However, Nadal broke back with a love game to force a tiebreak, which he eventually won 8-6 to put himself in control of the match.

On the women's side, there is a wide-open feel with six-time champion Serena Williams absent due to her pregnancy.
